organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 1986 and 1987. Tanarslan
has exhibited his works at the Turkish Arts Congress in Egypt. He has also
exhibited in Europe. At present, he continues to work on the craft in Ankara.
HIKMET BARUTCUGIL Gradute of Applied Industrial Arts College of the Fine Arts Academy. Barutcugil, who began marbling with the encouragement of the famous calligrapher and bookbinder Prof. Emin Barin, is now a professional in the art. Barutcugil experiments with different techniques. He has produced curtains for hotels, fabrics for clothes and ties using marbling techniques. The artist successfully applied the ebru to porcelain in collaboration with porcelain master Sitki Olcar. Barutcugil has exhibited in many countries, including the United States, Canada, Germany, Austria and Sweden. He is currently a university instructor. |
AHMET COKTAN
Born in Istanbul in 1962. Coktan was trained in ebru by Mustafa Duzgunman, Alparslan Babaoglu and Fuat Basar. He taught for two years at the Caferaga Medrese (theological school) and at the Istanbul Arts Center. NIYAZI SAYIN A musician well-known as a "ney" player, Niyazi Sayin was born in Istanbul in 1927. Besides his masterful command of the ney ( a flute-like wind instrument, Translator note), the artist has shown an interest in many of our traditional arts. He has created new techniques in marbling, which he learned to master under the direction of Mustafa Duzgunman. Sayin was instructor in Turkish music and ney at Washington University in the years 1980-81. During his stay in the Unites States, Sayin also introduced Americans to the art of Turkish marbling. He is Feridun Ozgoren's teacher. |
