COMTEMPORARY MASTERS

THE GRANDMASTER MUSTAFA DUZGUNMAN (1920-1990)

Born and died in Uskudar. While managing his late father's herbal shop to earn his leaving, Duzgunman learned the arts of marbling and bookbinding from his mother's uncle Necmeddin Okyay. Attending the Fine Arts Academy as a guest student, he expanded on the "floral marbling" technique he had learned from his teacher and uncle Necmeddin Okyay and produced very beautiful works, especially in the "daisy and violet" style. Considered the grandmaster of contemporary marbling artists, Duzgunman was a perfectionist of classical Turkish marbling and did not approve of experimenting with the art.
